Committee

Kristin Savage – President
I’m a surf addict and love every minute I’m in the water. Been involved in surfing clubs in various forms in Raglan, Bay of Plenty and Wellington over the past 15 years. I enjoy seeing a community come together through surfing to achieve positive outcomes. Judged on the SNZ circuit and directed various national contests, while developing an innovative surf contest format. I enjoy blogging and the transparency this brings to a community. There’s great potential in Wellington for an established and legally recognised surfing community and club. I’m focused on helping Wellington Boardriders achieve it’s objectives: Uniting, developing and representing the surfing community in Wellington.
Russell Millar – Treasurer
Surfing has moulded my life right from the mid 70s as a grom in Nelson, where frequent weekend trips to Kaikoura or Westport were the norm, and wetties still had tails. Moved to Wellington in ‘81 for study, and I have remained a local Wellington surfer since then. Business and family have been major commitments for me in past years, but in recent times with the family a bit more grown up, surfing has become a major focus for me again, and my daughter has taken up surfing now. Keen to offer some of my business and life experiences to the committee and looking forward to growing a strong club.
James Whitaker – Secretary
I started surfing when I was 14 years old – back then I didn’t have any wheels so I used to carry a mal from Maupuia to Lyall to surf whatever was on offer. By the time I got there I was often too tired to paddle out. I’m still hooked on surfing and get just as amped whenever a good swell is up. I’ve been on boards and committees in the past and thought it would be awesome to channel that experience into something I care a lot about. I want my family to get the same buzz out of surfing that I do and I want my kids to get to know other groms who surf around Wellington. I’d also like to see Wellington surfers get to know each other beond exchanging the occasional ‘hey’ in the lineup.

28 years surfing the corner. Grommet looking up to the bozos, agro teenage wannabe ripper, extensive east coast travels, time around Auckland, Coromandel, now settled in family [3 kids] and business [Maranui and Deluxe cafes] thanks to Katie my beautiful and awesome wife of 11 years. I feel it is time for solid representation at all levels, socially and politically, of the Wellington boardriding community and that I have some skills and experience to offer.
