Wellington Boardriders Incorporation
June 12, 2009
On Thursday June 4th, an AGM for Wellington Boardriders was held and the club committee elected its officers (more information here). Essentially, Wellington Boardriders Club is a legal ‘rubber stamp’ away from being an incorporated club.
Affiliation to Surfing New ZealandĀ is an objective of the club and steps are being taken to fulfill these requirements.
Briefly, the club’s objectives are to unite, develop and represent the surfing community in the Wellington region.
More news coming soon!

Hate to pop your bubble but it takes a year to affiliate to Surfing New Zealand now, they want to see your list of members and your meeting minutes for a whole year before they will grant affiliation. Good Luck
Hi Jan,
Thanks for your comment.
No bubble burst mate. It’ll happen in due course. Member list and minutes (on our website) are no problem. We’re in contact with Surfing NZ and are fully aware of the affiliation procedures.
As for the now, we’re full steam ahead.
Have a great weekend.
Congratulations to the club on a great start and good website!
Will Wellington Boardriders be voting at the Surfing New Zealand AGM on the 21st of November 2009 ?
if so, will the club be voting for the incumbents and Steve Poulter who is tipped to be the next President of Surfing New Zealand?
if you are voting, does your club intend to hold a meeting, regarding your memberships desire for SNZ committee selection?
What is your clubs committee view on the recent SNZ Special General Meeting and environmental / democratic changes made to its constitution?
With regard to Jan’s comment, your rules make no mention of providing membership details to a separate entity, like Surfing New Zealand. Regardless of being affiliated or not, you should really consult with your membership first.
I would suggest a rule change at the least, as this could be viewed as breach of the privacy act.
Perhaps that could be tied into a Special General meeting to discuss Wellington Boardriders voting strategy at the SNZ AGM?
To fully appreciate how Surfing New Zealand conducts itself, I recommend your members read my website which gives a brief history of previous SNZ AGMs.
