Club party next Wednesday (30 Jan)

January 24, 2013

We’re having the first of our monthly hang outs @ Maranui next Wednesday from 7-10pm. BYO beers, bbq food, dvds and tall tales re: recent missions. Haven’t been seeing each other much in the surf lately so this’ll be a great chance to get together for some fun times.

A few mins will be spent covering off some annual general meeting type formalities we didn’t get to cover last year. See you there

AGM

November 27, 2012

We’re holding our ATM at Realsurf on Fri 7 Dec, starting at 6pm. Come hang out, byo Fish n Chips and check out a few bargains while you’re there. We’re particularly keen to hear from people who’d like to join the committee. If you’re keen and would like to nominate yourself or someone else flick us an email @ wellingtonboardriders@gmail.com

All hail King Craig

October 9, 2012

Sat night was a nervous one for the boardriders committee – the indicators were looking good for a big (ish) swell on Sunday but there weren’t any signs of swell in the bay. Our guts told us swell was going to come so we called the event ‘on’ with a cautious midday start to give the swell a chance to front up.

By 12pm Sunday it was starting to shape up really well – solid sets were coming in and 20+ aspiring royals stepped forward for the battle for the chance to become king.

Everyone was relieved to be surfing again, the free surfers were easy going and the vibe all round was super positive. Best barrel award went to Jeremy Buckley who scored a nice deep one in his quarter but unfortunately didn’t back it up with another. It was a classic corner barrel and he was in there for a couple of seconds at least. In the end it was Craig Snook who took out the event by putting on a great backhand show comprising really vertical reos/slides and smooth cutties. Craig was stoked to win a nice cash prize, wetty and the honour of being known as the King of the Corner. He was crowned before his peers at the end of the event and shall now officially be known as his Royal Highness.

Huge thanks to our sponsors including the events major sponsor Surf N Snow who coughed up 3 great Rip Curl wetsuits and our other mates Manky Chops & RealSurf – you guys are too good to us! Cheers to Dominika for the images – you can find more of them here (password = Octcomp) and can order any pics you want via her site.

King of the Corner could be happening soon

September 16, 2012

Woo hoo! Huey has woken up and delivered a couple of swells within the last week or so. Now that the weather patterns have switched there’s a good chance we might score a classic day at the corner sometime in the next few weekends. If that happens, the King of the Corner comp will be on! Sign up here if you’re keen to enter and want to be kept in the loop.

Ladies – we’re running a women only Queen of the Corner comp early in 2013 to coincide with the Autumn swell window, we’ll put the word out to other boardrider clubs to drum up some interest and numbers for that event – should go off!
